Something I will always remember are the times up at the family cabin in Gimli Manitoba. I am what feels like a long way from there right now but I still often take a bike ride in my mind through the unfinished gravel streets of South Beach. Nothing in my pockets, the smell of he lake coming up off the beach. There is sand on my bare feet as they grip the sharp metal bike pedals. Crossing that narrow bridge and biking right along the lakeside. My hand reaches for the nearby branches. We bike past the Viking Statue. Family is always nearby, Grandpa and Grandma are the best of hosts and I don't even know it. He keeps cookies for me in his back pocket. She bakes apple pies, their scent drifts out screened windows towards the hammock. The bunk beds have a musty but inviting smell and so do the mornings. I am the first one up, always the early riser, Grandpa rises with me. His gentle masculine presence calms me to the core, he make porridge and toast, we don't talk about much and it's okay that way. I will always remember those times. Quiet mornings with Grandpa. The fire, blankets, and cuddles warming our bodies.
lyrics
Sometimes I feel a little undone so I'll walk on the path my Grandpa built and I'll walk it back.
From cabin to patio, from patio to lake.
I'll bike to 4th beach on a recumbent bike and there's nothing to take.
I will remember, I will remember this.
I will remember, I will remember this.
Sometimes I feel a little bogged down so I'll walk in the sand, I'll walk in the grass in my bare feet.
From cabin to patio, from patio to lake.
I'll bike to the pier on a banana bike and I'll get an ice cream.
I will remember, I will remember this.
I will remember, I will remember this.
My grandma knew just how to cook a nice apple pie, we'd want the cheese, old cheddar we took.
My grandpa knew how to eat corn like a typewriter from the back of the room, and he would cook porridge in the early morning.
I will remember, I will remember this.
I will remember, I will remember this.
I will remember, I will remember this.
I will remember, I will remember this.
